Winter 2010
Dear Educator/Prevention Leader:
The 13th Annual Middle School Public Service Announcement Challenge is underway. The abuse of drugs, alcohol and other substances continues to be a serious problem for our school-age children. That is why the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ) is once again providing students in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades in New Jersey’s middle schools with an opportunity to communicate a substance abuse prevention message to their peers.
The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey invites you to participate in the Thirteenth Annual Statewide Middle School Public Service Announcement Challenge, sponsored by New Jersey Natural Gas.
Participating classes will form teams, who will create a script for a 30-second television Public Service Announcement (PSA).
Teams can be as small as two students, or as large as twelve. Students may not participate in more than one team. Each team must submit a Team Roster and Entry Form, along with their script. Participating teachers may photocopy the enclosed materials. Please note that all submitted scripts become the property of PDFNJ and will not be returned.
A teacher may enter multiple teams, but each team may only submit one PSA. The winning script will be produced under the auspices of PDFNJ and will air on television outlets throughout the state.
Scripts may be sent by mail, email, or fax, however, entry forms and scripts may only be submitted by teachers on behalf of their students, to ensure that teachers have approved their students’ submissions. All submissions must be received by 5 p.m on April 2, 2010.

A panel of judges from the prevention, education and media fields will be invited to judge the completed scripts. Judging criteria will include creativity, message content, and ability to be produced. We look forward to the participation of your school and students in this important endeavor. Please contact 973-467-2100, ext 25. for any additional information, or visit www.drugfreenj.org.
