GLEN ROCK, NJ - Glen Rock Councilmember Arati Kreibich led local awareness efforts on Knockout Opioid Abuse Day, Oct. 6, as designated by Governor Phil Murphy.

Along with volunteers, Kreibich reached out to residents sharing information about why opioid abuse is so prevalent and some of the ways it can be reduced.

“Opioid abuse and addiction are present in every community," Kreibich said. "The stigma around this makes it worse. We need to speak openly and candidly about addiction and recovery and also do everything we can do to help stop this before it starts.”

During the public portion of last evening's Borough Council meeting, Claude Bienstock, who is part of the dangers of opioid abuse awareness in Fair Lawn, spoke about the need for more awareness.

At that same meeting on Oct. 7, Mayor Bruce Packer said Glen Rock's Stigma Free Committee sponsors at least one event each year to discuss addiction awareness, including March's community discussion on "Taking the Stigma out of Addiction."
