Overdose Deaths Decline in Nationwide, But Continued Focus on Root Causes Is Essential

Millburn, NJ — Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that overdose deaths in the U.S. are at their lowest levels in three years. In April 2024, the estimated number of deaths in the previous 12 months was 101,168. In New Jersey, the estimated number of overdose deaths in the 12-month period ending in April 2024 was 2,363, down from 2,564 suspected deaths in 2023.
