(MILLBURN)- The Millburn Police Department, in conjunction with the American Medicine Chest Challenge, introduced a custom designed permanent prescription drug drop-off box at their station on Essex Road in Millburn.  The drop-off box will provide local citizens an opportunity to safely dispose of unused or unwanted prescription drugs, keeping them off the streets.  Also helping to coordinate were the Millburn Township Public School District, Millburn Municipal Alliance Committee, and the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team (ADAPT): The Essex Coalition.

The prescription drug drop-off box was designed and painted by Lilly Blum of Millburn High School and is one of over 60 drop-off points in New Jersey affiliated with the American Medicine Chest Challenge, a national public health campaign designed at raising awareness of the issue of prescription drug abuse and safe disposal of unused, unwanted, or expired medicine.

“We are so pleased to be cooperating with the Millburn Police in this important public safety and health endeavor,” said Angelo M. Valente, CEO of the American Medicine Chest Challenge. “The American Medicine Chest Challenge started right here in Millburn and over the past six years we have expanded nationwide in order to end prescription drug abuse.”

The drop off box will be available at the Millburn Township Police Station 24 hours a day and seven days a week for residents to utilize.

AMCC is a not-for-profit community based public health initiative, with law enforcement partnership, designed to raise awareness about the dangers of prescription drug abuse and provide a nationwide day of disposal – at a collection site or in the home - of unused, unwanted, and expired medicine.
