With warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine, there are dozens of opportunities to enjoy the summer weather with your family. The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ) is encouraging that quality family time is spent with the first Don’t Get Hooked on Drugs New Jersey Online Family Fishing Tournament.

According to recent statistics, kids who communicate regularly with their parents about their daily activities are 67 percent less likely to be involved in substance abuse than children who have little or no communication. In a world where children constantly stay glued to their iPhones and social media, they do not often interact with their parents. A day of fishing will be a nice change of atmosphere and make families realize the several benefits of spending time together.

From Friday, August 21 at 12:01 a.m. to  Sunday, August 30 at 11:59 p.m., children 18 years of age or younger can enjoy a fishing trip and take a picture of their family with a caught fish along with PDFNJ’s “Don’t’ Get Hooked” logo, and the hashtag #dontgethooked. Pictures can be posted by liking PDFNJ’s Facebook page at Drug-Free NJ or by following PDFNJ on Twitter and Instagram. The “Don’t Get Hooked” logo is available in a printable format to download starting August 21 at 12:01 a.m. or ensure the electronic version is in the photo.

All entries must be submitted no later than August 31, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. A winner will be selected at random on September 1, 2015 and will be eligible to win over $600 in cash prizes.
