A New Opioid Addiction Device to Aid in Withdrawal Symptoms

I am happy to report that the FDA has cleared S.T. Genesis, a new non-invasive device that manages opioid withdrawal symptoms without any added medication.

The device is having great success and can work quickly to wean patients off opioids. It worn behind the ear for five days and aids in the reduction of opioid withdrawal symptoms through application to the cranial and occipital nerves.

In New Jersey millions of people have received opioid prescriptions as a treatment for pain. In New Jersey, from January through November of 2020, there were 3,026,599 opioid prescriptions written and 2,791 opioid-related deaths.  Additionally, 130 people die each day from opioid overdoses in the United States.

Overcoming addiction to opioids is extremely difficult. Often times, people who are in treatment relapse due to the difficult withdrawal symptoms they face. This new device offers promising help to those who are in treatment for opioid addiction, according to the NIH.
