New Opioid Overdose Reversal Nasal Spray

The FDA recently approved Opvee, a new opioid overdose reversal nasal spray that is similar to Narcan but contains nalmefene, the first reversal drug to do so. Currently, Opvee is available by prescription.

The opioid reversal drug Narcan is available over the counter without a prescription, and many harm reduction organizations in our state continue to distribute it.

Lewis Nelson, MD, chair of emergency medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, is quoted in this article and notes the effectiveness and availability of Narcan as another tool to save lives.
