    If there any doubters out there that Narcan is a vital lifesaving tool for our first responders in ending the opioid epidemic gripping our state, then please consider this recent article from ABC 7. Thanks to Ocean and Monmouth Countys’ new pilot program, allowing for police officers and EMS personnel to carry Narcan, an antidote designed to reverse the effects of heroin overdose, 6 lives have already been saved this year.

  • Study says that marijuana use affects the brain

    With the ever changing landscape of the marijuana legalization debate and new stories being published on a daily basis, this statement bears repeating: studies show that even casual marijuana use causes changes to the brain. According to a study sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse NIDA , casual marijuana users show abnormalities in the amygdala and the nucleus accumbens, two regions of the brain associated with emotion and motivation.

    This past Monday, US Attorney Eric Holder released a statement about heroin and opioid abuse, calling it “an urgent – and growing – public health crisis”. The US Attorney said that heroin overdose deaths have increased a staggering 45% between 2006 and 2010.
