Tomorrow is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day in New Jersey

Tomorrow, Saturday, September 26, 2015, is the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day in New Jersey. This initiative is supported by Drug Enforcement Administration-NJ, PDFNJ’s partner in many Rx Abuse prevention programs. National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is helping our law enforcement provide safe, legal and easily accessible disposal to residents across the state. Tomorrow from, 10 am to 2 pm, dispose of the excess medicine in your home at a local participating Rx Disposal collection site.

If you are unable to participate tomorrow, it is important to remember that every day, hundreds of locations to dispose of unused, unwanted and expired medicine are available for New Jersey residents. These locations can be found on the American Medicine Chest Challenge website or with the AMCC RX Drop Mobile app. The website and mobile app include information for over 150 permanent Rx drop boxes throughout New Jersey installed independently by local law enforcement, by community organizations such as the Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Morris or Atlantic County Prevention Resources; with AMCC, or programs such as Project Medicine Drop or the CVS Safer Communities program. These locations are available and open year round to all residents who want to safeguard their home from potential diversion and misuse of the prescription drugs in their medicine cabinet legally, anonymously, and safely.

On tomorrow’s DEA-NJ Take-Back Day, I challenge all New Jersey families to take the American Medicine Chest 5 Step Challenge:

1. Take inventory of your prescription and over-the-counter medicine.

2. Secure your medicine.

3. Dispose of your unused, unwanted, and expired medicine in any of New Jersey’s American Medicine Chest Challenge Disposal sites or any DEA Take-Back day location.

4. Take your medicine(s) exactly as prescribed. Please visit PhRMA for more information.

5. Talk to your children about the dangers of prescription drug abuse... they are listening.
